Emergency Dentistry Q&A
What is emergency dentistry?
Emergency dentistry is like any other emergency care — it treats dental problems as quickly as possible to prevent further complications or damage, and gets you back to functioning correctly again in no time. The most common reasons for seeking emergency dental care are:
- Chipped or broken tooth
- Knocked-out tooth
- Cracked tooth
- Missing crown or filling
- Gum pain
If you’re bleeding extensively or are in severe pain, it’s best to go to the hospital for immediate care. If the dental damage isn’t potentially dangerous, make an appointment to see Dr. Burnett for same-day dentistry.
What should I do if my tooth is knocked out?
One of the most common dental emergencies is the loss of a tooth. If this happens to you or a member of your family, there are a few steps you should take right away:
- Locate the tooth
- Try and stick the tooth back in the socket
- If your tooth won’t stay in the socket, put it in a jar of milk to preserve it
- Place some gauze over your socket to stem the bleeding
- Call Dr. Burnett
If you’re able to get your tooth back into the socket, there’s a good chance that the tooth will reattach itself, which Dr. Burnett determines when you come in for an examination.
What is same-day dentistry?
